Methyl Hesperidin Dihydrochalcone (NHDC) is a flavonoid derivative extracted from citrus plants, which is characterized by high sweetness, low calorie and good stability, and is widely used in the fields of food, medicine, functional food and feed.

Basic Information

Chinese name: Neomethyl Hesperidin Dihydrochalcone (Alias: Hesperidin)

English name: Neohesperidin Dihydrochalcone (abbreviation: NHDC)

Type: Flavonoid derivatives (Vitamin P class)

Molecular formula: C28H36O15

Molecular weight: 612.58

CAS No.: 20702-77-6

Appearance: white or slightly yellow powder crystal

Solubility: Solubility 0.2g/L at 20℃, solubility up to 653g/L at 80℃.

Stability: stable above pH 2.0 at room temperature, will not be hydrolyzed to generate free monosaccharide and glycoside, even if occasionally hydrolyzed, it will not completely lose the sweet taste. It shows good stability under high temperature and acid-base conditions.

Characteristics

High sweetness and low calorie:

Sweetness is 1500-1800 times that of sucrose.

Glycosidic base undergoes hydrolysis in the human body, but does not participate in metabolism, the caloric value is very small (8.36J/g), it can be used as a low energy food sweetener.

Slow sweetness, long time:

The sweetness comes slowly, the aftertaste lasts long (57 seconds), and the sweetness is refreshing and pleasant.

The sweetness reaches its maximum value in a longer time than both saccharin (42 seconds) and sucrose (24 seconds).

Good stability, non-toxicity, fast metabolism:

Stable in acidic and alkaline environment, it is the most stable and safe high-fold sweetener known.

It has flavoring properties such as sweetening, aroma, taste and masking bitter taste:

Has antioxidant properties, can reduce cholesterol and lower blood sugar.

Applications

Food sweetener/sweetness enhancer:

Used in combination with sucralose, polyol sweeteners, saccharin, etc., it has a strong synergistic effect, which can increase the sweetness, reduce the dosage of sweeteners, lower the cost, and at the same time make the sweetness more pure.

It is widely used in juice drinks, milk, fruit wines, desserts, bakery products, candies, chewing gums, flavored sauces, low-energy beverages, sauces, vinegar, betel nuts, cold fruits and so on.

Sweetener for functional food/health products:

It does not undergo calorie conversion in the body, is a low calorie value sweetener, and has physiological activities such as lowering sugar, lowering cholesterol and antioxidant.

It is especially suitable for use as sugar substitute in functional foods, health products, dietary supplements and other health foods.

Pharmaceutical auxiliary flavoring agent (bitter taste masking agent):

It can act on bitter receptors when it is below the sweetness threshold, thus raising the human threshold for bitterness, and the effect of removing bitterness is significantly better than that of general sweeteners.

For example, NHDC is used in the European version of Viagra and pediatric ibuprofen suspension to mask the bitter taste of the drug.

Food Flavor and Fragrance:

NHDC’s aroma is similar to that of maltol and ethyl maltol, and it can produce obvious synergistic effects with maltol and ethyl maltol, and it is widely used in frozen dairy products, confectionery, pudding, fruit juices, non-alcoholic beverages, condiments, jams, chewing gum, and so on.

Feed additives:

As a sweetener added to the feed, it can make the feed taste super sweet, increase the appetite of piglets, obviously promote their growth and reduce the feed consumption per kilogram of weight gain.

When used in combination with saccharin sodium, it can produce excellent synergistic effect, mask and improve the bad bitter taste of certain ingredients in the diet (such as some protein raw materials, vitamins, metal ions, and some pharmaceutical ingredients, etc.).
